Tim Walker

I don't think I've blogged much (if at all) about my love of photography, but I've been interested in it since I was a kid. My dad used to work for Minolta before he aligned himself with his first love, sailing, and became a yacht broker. I remember going on family vacations and having to take photos over and over again until the light and everybody in the photograph were just right...

Recently, I've really been loving London based Tim Walker's fashion photography. As far as fashion photography goes, he's certainly not as well known as big shots like Richard Avedon, Herb Ritts or Patrick Demarchelier, but Walker has gained a lot of press (both print and in the blogosphere) recently with his current exhibit at London's Design Museum.

Here are some of his works I really like:

Such a beautiful way to show off that gown. It reminds me of a couture Rapunzel, except of course letting down her dress and not her hair!

I like this because it references the H.C. Andersen story of The Princess and the Pea

This one is beautiful for it's shadow effects and the whimsy the huge insects and amphibians give to it...

I often like to make up short stories in my head when I look at fashion photographs. For this one it seems like a bride and her bridesmades were on the way to her wedding. On the way, she got cold feet and decided to call it off. They pulled over to the nearest gorgeous floral field for a little "good decision!" revelry!

I like this one primarily for the photo in the upper right. I love fashion-y photographs of ballerinas. Probably because it combines two things I love: fashion and ballet.
